Essential Skills for Online Teaching

The online, self-paced Essential Skills for Online Teaching course consists of 6 hours of asynchronous virtual learning. Participants will be able to describe the scope of skills necessary to create and teach a high-quality online course.

Participants acquire the following key competencies:

• Use the principles of Andragogy and adult learning theory.

• Recognize the skills necessary to create and teach an online course.

• Explain the four categories of competencies with supporting examples.

• Reflect on personal readiness to create and teach an online course.

• Partner with academic support units to create materials for an online course.

To earn the Essential Skills for Online Teaching digital badge, each participant must:

• Read all instructional content pages.

• Successfully complete all five assignments with a passing grade.
