Foundations of Project Management - Customized Learning for State of Delaware CIP

This fully customized Foundations of Project Management program is designed in collaboration with the State of Delaware, Department of Human Resources. The intensive 5-week program consists of 35 hours of live instruction from a Project Management Professional (PMP®) certified instructor, and is part of the State of Delaware's CIP (Continuous Improvement Practitioner) internal training program. The purpose of the CIP program is to build the bench strength of state employees with the knowledge and skills to lead and deliver project and process improvement. The program fosters relationship building and information sharing among participants to establish a diverse community of continuous improvement practitioners across state organizations.
The delivery of this program is supported by the global standards of the Project Management Institute® and PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition, as well as Delaware's Government Efficiency and Accountability Review Board (GEAR) Project Management Playbook.
Participants acquire the following key competencies during this 5-week program:
• Understanding of key project management concepts and terminology
• Understanding the roles of Project Manager, Project Sponsor and Key Project Stakeholders
• Differentiation of project management, program management and portfolio management
• Selection and prioritization of projects by linking project objectives
• Development of the project business case, project charter and benefits management plan
• Identifying and analyzing project stakeholders
• Understanding the steps involved in developing a Project Management Plan and Subsidiary Plans
• Identifying of roles and responsibilities
• Understanding of risk management relative to a project
• Understanding of, and ability to develop a Work Breakdown Structure
• Understanding of how the project management life cycle relates to Delaware's GEAR Project Management Playbook
• Understanding the five project management Process Groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and controlling, and Closing.
To earn the Foundations of Project Management Badge, each participant must:
• Attend all scheduled sessions
• Join a project team and participate in a pre-determined group project related to their business area for the entire duration of the class
• Complete group work sessions that enable students to practice with the tools and techniques covered in class while they build toward their capstone presentation.
• Give a capstone presentation during the final class session of the training covering the project work presented in class including Developing the Project Charter; Preparing the Project Business Case; Performing Project Stakeholder Analysis; Developing the Project Scope Statement; Establishing Project Responsibilities by developing the Project Responsibility; Assignment Matrix; Developing the Project Risk Register; and Creating the Project Work Breakdown Structure and Key Milestones.
CEUs (Continuing Education Units) earned for this program: 3.5 CEUs.
