Instructional Design Certificate

The online Instructional Design program consists of 120 contact hours of instruction over the course of at least six months. The Instructional Design Certificate program consists of three courses: 1. Foundations of Instructional Design 2. Curriculum Development for Instructional Design 3. E-Learning and Course Development for Instructional Design Participants acquire the following key competencies during this program: • Understanding and application of standard development models for instructional design. • Understanding and application of major learning theory principles applicable to instructional design. • Understanding and application of graphic and multimedia design principles for learning design. • Understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to support accessibility and equity in course design. • Producing learning content using authoring tools for instructional design projects. • Planning analysis of learners needs to inform the design of an e-learning module. • Creating measurable and clear learning objectives. • Designing an e-learning module with aligned learning objectives, activities and assessments. • Applying diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in the design of e-learning. • Planning the evaluation of an e-learning module. • Applying the ADDIE instructional design model to scope and plan an e-learning project. • Designing an instructional systems prototype in alignment with multimedia design principles. • Managing the production timeline and scope of an e-learning prototype. • Providing collegial feedback on an e-learning prototype, including recommendations for improvements. • Generating feedback to inform improvements to the design of an e-learning module. To earn the Instructional Design Program digital badge, each participant must: • Complete all three of the program’s courses with a passing grade and earn a “C” or above as the course grade. This badge was issued to participants upon successful completion of the program during the Spring 2023 semester.
